Lightweight pages
Each Coavela marketing page has a budget for a first visit with an empty cache: at most 250 KB transferred, 50 requests and 120 KB of compressed JavaScript. A check runs against every change and fails the build when a page goes over.
- No third-party trackers. Coavela’s own pages load no third-party scripts, analytics tags or advertising pixels.
- Self-hosted fonts. We serve two typefaces from our own domain, cut down to Latin characters and the weights we use, so no font requests go to another company.
- Modern image formats. Images on these pages are AVIF or WebP, at the size they are shown, and load only when they scroll into view.
- Edge caching. Marketing and legal pages are kept in Cloudflare’s cache close to visitors and reused for every visitor, instead of being generated again for each visit.
- HTTP/3 and compression. Pages and files are served over HTTP/3 with Brotli compression.
Video
Video is usually the largest part of what clients download, so the player is careful with it.
- Videos never play on their own.
- The player starts loading only when it scrolls into view.
- Lessons stream with adaptive quality, so slower connections get a smaller resolution instead of buffering.
- Code for the video player is loaded only on pages that show a video, never on these pages.
Plans include a hosted-video allowance (2 hours on Free, 12 hours on Creator). Stored video counts toward it, including drafts and replaced files, so removing recordings nobody watches frees up room. How hosted video is counted.
AI at Coavela
Coavela uses AI to create transcripts and chapters for uploaded recordings and, on the Growth plan, session notes. Transcripts and chapters are drafts: you review and edit them before you publish anything.
Which providers process recordings, and how long data is kept, is described in our privacy policy under Recordings and AI processing.
What we haven’t done yet
- There is no dark mode yet.
- Cover images that coaches upload are stored as one JPEG up to 1,600 pixels wide and sent at that size wherever they appear.
- The client library doesn’t work offline.
- The video player doesn’t remember a client’s chosen quality.
- We don’t publish an estimate of Coavela’s emissions.
